Moto G5 and G5S devices are currently running on Android 7.1 Nougat OS and the upcoming major android update for these devices is Oreo. Google released the latest Android update with many exciting features in August. Till the moment, Pixel, Nexus and Xperia XZ Premium devices got the update and Motorola recently confirmed that Moto G5 and G5S are in the upgrade list.
With the Android 8.0 Oreo update Moto G5S and G5 devices will get a bunch of new features like PiP, smart text selection, notification channels and also some crucial improvements like reduced boot times, app launch times and many more.
Android Oreo Rollout Dates for Moto G5 and G5S
Motorola didn’t share the official release dates of Oreo for these mid-rangers, but we can easily guess based on the history of Motorola updates.
In December 2016, Motorola began the Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for Moto G4 and G4 Plus devices in India. But in the US, Canada, the devices got updated to Nougat in phases in the first half of 2017. So this time Moto G5S might receive Android 8.0 earlier than G5.
Thus, Moto G5S might start receiving the Android Oreo update in December 2017 in some regions. In the remaining regions, the rollout probably begin in Q1 of 2018.
Moto G5 devices may start receiving the update through OTA in late-December or early-January. But in the US, Australia and Canada, the major carriers may begin the rollout in Q1 of 2018. The official release dates of Android Oreo for G5 and G5S will be revealed in coming days.
Android 8.0 Oreo Features
In the Oreo update, the Search Giant brought significant changes to user interface like New settings menu, revamped Quick Settings, Notification Dots and many more.
The Picture in Picture (PiP) feature is one of the awesome features of Android 8.0 Oreo. Actually, PiP mode came to Android powered TVs with Nougat update and now arrives to smart phones with Oreo. This is a new way of multi-tasking with video players and Video calling apps. With PiP, Moto G5 and G5S users can minimize a window like YouTube or Chrome to the corner of the screen and use the remaining area to browse the web or to chat.
