Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus are the latest flagships from Samsung while the S10e is an affordable flagship variant. These devices are released in March 2019 with pre-installed Android 9 Pie with One UI skin. The next major upgrade for S10 series is Android 10 Q.
Google released the first beta of Android Q in March and later in May, the third Beta of Android 10 hit other major flagships like LG G8 ThinQ, Xperia XZ3 along with Pixel series devices. However, as Samsung is not participating in the Beta program, no Beta is available for any Samsung flagships. Ths Search Giant released the the official version of Android on September 3rd and started the rollout for Pixel and Pixel XL series devices on the same day. There is no codename associated with the tenth anniversary edition of Android as Google dropped the tradition. So the update is called simply as Android 10.
When will Android 10 hit Samsung S10 and S10 Plus ?
Previously, Samsung began its own Beta program of Android Pie in November 2018 for S9 series in the US and South Korea. This time due to various improvements like Project Treble, the Beta program of Android 10 may begin sooner than anticipated. So in late-October or early- November registrations for Android 10 Beta might begin.
Samsung may rollout three to four betas for Galaxy S10, S10 Plus and S10e devices, based on earlier rollouts. The final version of Android 10 may arrive to unlocked Galaxy S10 series users in early or mid-January at least in the US and South Korea. The rollout may disseminate to other regions and carrier locked devices in February 2020. We will post the official roadmap of Android 10 rollout for Samsung flagships, as soon as the tech giant has announced it.
What’s new in Android 10 update ?
Samsung has pretty much optimized the software with OneUI last year, but that doesn’t mean there are no areas of improvement. Dark theme is one of the awesome features of One UI present in Galaxy S10, now arrived to Pixel devices with Android Q. However, users can enable forcefully dark theme in third party apps with Android Q. The native dark theme of Android Q is much better than Samsung’s One UI dark theme, according to some reviews. So Samsung may bring the native system-wide dark mode to Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus flagships with the Android Q update.
Fully gestural navigation is another exciting feature of Android Q. So Galaxy S10 users may get the new navigation gestures with the update. If users doesn’t like it, they can revert back to old button style navigation.
System suggested smart replies is a remarkable feature of Android Q. Bubbles is another feature which facilitates easy replying to messages. Using these features, users can reply to social messages quickly in no time.
Native support for 5G networks is coming with the Android Q update which is very useful for Galaxy S10 users in 5G coverage areas. The reduced latencies readily evident in stock android apps and third-party apps because of support for 5G.
The Android Q update comes with another remarkable feature called Live captions which is very much useful for Galaxy S10 series users. When the user plays any videos or music captions automatically appear on the bottom of the screen, which are generated using on-device processing.
Users can’t save the transcript after the media ends but edit the size and place of captions. The feature even works with YouTube, Pocket casts, Google Duo, Skype, Video calls and so on. However, it still not clear whether the feature come to the S10 series users or not. In coming days, more details about the Live caption feature will be revealed.
Digital Wellbeing with Parental Controls
The Digital wellbeing is a remarkable feature introduced in Android 9 Pie. Now in the tenth anniversary edition of Android, Google refined with the addition of new components like Parental Controls and Focus mode. Using Parental Controls, Galaxy S10 users can restrict their children’s phone usage time and prevent smartphone addiction. Screen-on timer, specific App usage timer, app lock are the features of parental controls.
Focus Mode
Another new component in Digital wellbeing is Focus mode which helps to user to focus on one task with out constant interruptions. When the user turn-on the focus mode, it temporarily stops all notifications, alerts, so user can concentrate on work or watch a movie on the device.
One UI 2.1 Features
It seems clear that Samsung is currently developing a big upgrade for the previous One UI, according to leaks. Based on Android Q user interface, the South Korean tech giant is developing the One UI 2.0 interface. We still haven’t get any solid details about what new features coming with One UI 2.0.
The key features of Android 10 interface like native dark mode, parental controls for digital wellbeing, Redesigned quick settings and other may come to Galaxy S10 series with the One UI 2.0 update. More features about One UI 2 will be posted here, as soon as Samsung has announced.
Update on 11/10/2020 :
Samsung announced the rollout of OneUI 2.0 Beta for Galaxy S10 flagship but the rollout has been halted after rolling out for few hours due to serious bugs. According to the official forum, the rollout will be resumed in a few days, most likely in mid-October. The size of the update is huge, about 1.9 GB and comes along with October month’s security patch.
The key changes in the update include Full screen Gesture navigation similar to stock android, enhanced One handed mode and Biometrics, Digital wellbeing with Limits and Focus mode, refined Samsung Internet browser, fully revamped Camera app UI,
Screen recording at 480p, 720p and FullHD resolutions. We will post more about the Beta soon as we are still digging inside the beta.
Update on 4/9/2020 :
The Search Giant starts the rollout of Android 10 for Pixel handsets few hours ago, as previous leaks indicated. The famous Canadian carriers Telus and Rogers previously stated that Pixel devices will begin receiving the Android 10 update from September 3rd. Essential also started the rollout for select consumers. One Plus also begins the rollout for One Plus flagships, according to reports from users. We here that most Pixel users upgraded to the tenth anniversary iteration without any hiccups but a handful of users say that their devices stuck on boot for a few hours.
However, Samsung hasn’t made any announcement regarding which phones will receive the update and the rollout schedule. So we will post the official update schedule as soon as Samsung has announced it.
Update on 8/8/2020 :
The final cum sixth Beta of Android Q is now live, Google announces the last Beta of the upcoming Android update, few hours ago. The rollout for Pixel series and Essential Phone has just begun and we are digging inside the latest Beta to know what’s new. Till now, we find no notable changes except the Back button sensitivity option as rumoured earlier. The user interface has been polished and it seems nice compared to the earlier Beta.
In Beta 6, users can find a gear icon besides the Gesture navigation option in System navigation section in Settings menu. On tapping the icon, users can adjust the Back sensitivity through a slider. Other minor changes in the Beta 6 include Darker Autorotate button at the bottom-right corner of the screen, new Emergency button in the Power Menu. Google posted in the official blog that there will be no major changes in the final version of Android Q apart from fixing of any bugs if discovered. In a few weeks, the final version of Android Q and its code name will be announced.
